Do not specify magnet strength from a single advertised pull-force number. Set a finished-product test: defined metal surfaces, dry and wet towel weights, vertical holding, vibration, repeated attachment and washing. Approve the complete assembly.

Why pull-force numbers can mislead

Magnet suppliers usually measure pull force against a clean, flat steel plate under controlled conditions. The test may pull perpendicular to the plate, which is the strongest and most repeatable direction. A golf towel often hangs vertically, slides, twists or peels from one edge instead.

A silicone cover, fabric pocket, paint layer or uneven cart surface creates separation between the magnet and steel. Magnetic holding performance can drop sharply as that gap increases. This means two products using the same nominal magnet can behave differently after assembly.

Define the load before the magnet

A 40 × 60 cm waffle microfiber towel and a heavier cotton towel do not place the same demand on the magnet. An off-centre assembly can also peel away even when its static pull appears adequate.

  • Finished towel weight when dry.
  • Maximum realistic towel weight when wet.
  • Weight of embroidery, patch, clip and other hardware.
  • Where the magnet sits relative to the centre of gravity.
  • Whether the towel hangs freely or can catch on another object.
  • Expected cart vibration, walking movement and wind.

Use a finished-product test plan

The test plate should be documented because low-carbon steel, painted steel, thin sheet and stainless alloys do not behave the same way. If the marketing promise includes attachment to a club head or cart, include representative examples in the approval test.

Balance strength with usability

A magnet can be inconvenient if the attachment is difficult to release, snaps forcefully onto nearby metal or creates a pinch point. The housing should protect the brittle magnet from impact and help distribute load without producing a hard, uncomfortable corner.

Neodymium magnets deliver high magnetic energy for their size but require suitable protection in humid applications because the material is prone to corrosion. Coating quality and enclosure design should therefore be part of the assembly specification, especially for a towel that will be wet and repeatedly washed.
